It took me a while to realize that "being healthy" was more than just a number on a scale or a number on my jeans. It was more than just the type of food I put in my body and what I was doing to exercise. That something more is the spiritual. Without it, I believe, you aren't completely healthy.
There's something that happens when you are feeding your soul. Attitudes are more positive. Days are brighter. Smiles come easier. You are more prone to loving yourself and caring for your well-being.
For me, I find solace in reading from the Book of Mormon. I'm not perfect at reading this daily...I wish I was. The words feed my soul like no other book has ever done...and I love to read!
I have also found that if I take time to pray and meditate each day, it does wonders! I don't know about you, but I need that quiet time from the noise of the world...even if it's just a moment!
I guess this has been on my mind a lot because I've been slacking at feeding my soul these last few weeks. I know those moments when I don't want to read or pray are the moments when I need it the most!
I have these fitness challenge groups that I do that range from 10 days to 60 days, and I love them. They have definitely helped me along in becoming healthier. But what I know I need to do is challenge myself, again, to feeding my soul every day along with the daily mini challenges that the groups have.
I know a lot of you are super busy, too, so how do you find the time to feed your spiritual self? And what do you do to nourish it? I am always looking for new things to try as I like change! :)

Hi! I know what you mean. Finding time to nourish ourselves spiritually can be difficult to be sure, but it can be done! I find that if I get up even 15 minutes earlier than I usually do and either read my scriptures or a book by one of the general authorities or the prophet and follow it with prayer where I can speak to my Heavenly Father about all the things that are weighing heavily on my mind and ask for His assistance in handling all the pressures my whole day goes amazingly well, regardless of the ups and downs that invariably happen. Then, before I go to bed at night I take time again to read my scriptures or one of the books I referenced earlier and it helps me calm my mind so I can go to bed and sleep peacefully and have sweet dreams. Now I realize I don't have a spouse waiting for me but I still think taking time to calm oneself at the end of the day and express a prayer of gratitude is valuable whether done alone or as a couple. :) I have recently read two books by Brad Wilcox that have touched my heart deeply and made a profound difference in my life. The first is The Continuous Conversion and the second is The Continuous Atonement. They are both available through Desseret Book and are not super expensive, (around $20 dollars or so as I recall) and they are both amazing!!!!! I am currently working on two of David Bednar's Books: Act in Doctrine and Increase in Learning. They are both wonderful books, but more along the lines of "manuals" So I went to Deseret Book and got an inexpensive copy of the Bible and the Book of Mormon in large print and I am marking them according to the readings I'm doing in the books. Both experiences are really helping me grow spiritually and have touched my heart in ways I can't begin to describe. Now that you are settling in in Hemet you might also consider finding an endocronologist, I think if you could get to feeling better physically it would help you enormously in all other areas of your life. That of course is just a suggestion, but one I once again feel prompted to remind you of. I know when you pray about it you will know what to do. I love you sweetie! Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Di! I, of course, love book referrals! :) I will look into those. I will also be working on getting doctor appointments next week. :) Love you!
